KidZania for Schools
Teacher training course at MGPU
In cooperation with Moscow City Teacher Training University, we created a refresher course for the teachers who would like to use KidZania's resources in their work: "Employing the educational potential of museums, libraries and other cultural institutions in the teaching and learning process of educational organizations in Moscow". The course is offered free of charge. To participate, please fill in the form.
Approved by the Department of Education
When visiting KidZania children develop cross-curricular skills, highly valued by the new generation of educational standards. Moscow Department of Education recommends to visit KidZania during the curriculum hours intended for development of these skills.
We should not regard KidZania as competitors, as we can lose this competition. What we should do is integrate. Not every school has the resources, but Moscow does. Our aim is to implement the city educational resources into the school curriculum.
Recommendations for teachers
Let children decide
In KidZania children make their own decisions. It is a vital part of our educational approach. Making decisions is a necessary skill that is hard to develop at school.
Children should be allowed to make their own choices, even if their behavior seems illogical and ineffective. For instance, a child might spend a lot of time buying sweets or visit the same activity twice. However, next time they come up with a list of the activities they did not visit and manage to participate in 7–8 activities. If a teacher or a parent intervenes and decides where a child should go, their behavioral strategy does not change. To develop the ability to plan and set goals, children should be free to make their own choices.
Classroom work after the first visit
We recommend to organize a classroom activity after the first visit to KidZania. Our supervisors have developed a special program that helps children solidify new knowledge and skills. You can download it here: ”Getting to know KidZania” lesson.
KidZania helps to better understand school subjects
KidZania experience has proven that any subject, shall it be Mathematics, History or Biology, is much better learnt through roleplay. Our supervisors have come up with a couple of programs, using which children can get advanced knowledge in school subjects. A teacher can choose a program and take children to the activities it involves. After visiting the park we recommend to arrange a brush-up lesson in the classroom, using a guidance manual.
6th grade, Biology. Recommended activities: DANON Yoghurt Factory, Colgate Dental Clinic, INVITRO Medical Lab
DANON Yoghurt Factory
While playing Microbe Hunting children learn that living things consist of organic compounds. They visit the yogurt factory to learn how bacterial fermentation makes milk sour.
Colgate Dental Clinic
Children try the role of a dentist. They fill a patient's dental cavity and learn about the role of oral bacteria.
INVITRO Medical Lab
Children conduct a microbiological research at the laboratory. They perform a bacterial contamination and define the types of bacteria in four grown colonies.
5th grade, History. Recommended activity: Museum of KidZania
At the museum children can take a look at the artifacts from different historical periods, see archaeological finds from Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, and find out how visiting museums helps us learn history. Children also can try the role of a conservator-restorer.
Firefighter. The Secret of Fire
Elementary school, Natural Science. Recommended activity: Firefighting
Before taking up the role of firefighters, children will receive detailed instructions, learn about the history of the profession, the invention of special signs, the nature and mechanism of burning.
Being a Firefighter
When a fire alert goes off, children have to be quick — grab a helmet, jump into the fire engine, and rush to the emergency site. Once there, the firefighting crew evacuates people, rolls out fire hoses, and extinguishes the fire.
